How We Keep Your Smile Safe & Bright

Smiling male dental patient

Our mission as a dental office is to not just fix problems like cavities and broken teeth as they pop up, but rather work to proactively stop them before they ever occur. This saves our patients’ time, prevents pain, and keeps their dental costs relatively low, which are all positives no matter who you are.

Dental checkups and cleanings at El Reno Family Dentistry are the cornerstone of making sure you need to spend as little time in our practice as possible. With just two of these appointments each year, we can make sure you and your loved ones have strong, attractive teeth that never need a second thought.

Why are Regular Dental Checkups & Cleanings Important?

These services enable us to stay ahead of any potential dental problems so we can minimize (or completely avoid) any damage or discomfort.

A thorough exam allows us to look at not just your teeth, but also your gums, tongue, bite, and existing dental work. Thanks to our experienced eyes and advanced imaging technology, we’ll be able to spot and fix things before you even notice that something might be wrong.

And cleanings allow us to remove cavity-causing plaque and tartar that you can’t at home with regular brushing and flossing. These also give your hygienist the chance to find any spots you might be missing routinely, meaning they can help you make the most out of your at-home oral hygiene between appointments.

What to Expect During a Dental Checkup

A dental checkup consists of four distinct parts:

  • First, our team will ask how your teeth and mouth feel and see if you’ve been experiencing any pain or new symptoms.
  • We’ll take a complete set of X-rays so we can see the oral structures that are hidden from the naked eye (we typically only need to do this once a year).
  • Using loupes (magnifying glasses) and an intraoral camera, we’ll do a thorough visual exam of your mouth.
  • At the end, your dentist will use the images from earlier to explain everything they are seeing and recommend an ongoing treatment plan. You’ll have a chance to ask questions, make suggestions, and lay out the path ahead when it comes to your care.

What to Expect During a Dental Cleaning

With a cleaning, your hygienist will:

  • Use a dental laser to remove stubborn plaque and tartar (which are the root cause of most oral issues).
  • Floss and point out where you tend to accumulate the most plaque.
  • Apply fluoride to give your teeth an extra layer of cavity protection.
  • Polish your teeth to remove surface stains and give them that nice, porcelain feeling.
